Marriage Equality Update from DC
With same-sex marriage set to become legal on March 2, we have a few more updates on the efforts to stop this (as I’ve discussed before, Congress gets to review and possibly–though unlikely in this case–repeal DC legislation). Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) has filed legislation to put marriage equality to a vote. This comes after Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) introduced a resolution to block marriage equality. Chaffetz, however, acknowledged this doesn’t have legs and is more “symbolic.” Apparently Utah is more concerned with DC politics than the other 49 states are.
In other, more uplifting news, a poll of DC residents showed that the majority (56% to 35%) support marriage equality.
